Meta Announces Music Integration for WhatsApp Status Updates: Here’s How to Do It

Meta is set to introduce a game-changing feature that allows WhatsApp users to incorporate music into their status updates.

The reliable WhatsApp tracking website, WABetaInfo, first reported the highly anticipated feature. According to their findings, users will soon be able to integrate music into their status updates seamlessly. As stated in their report:

“WhatsApp is working a new feature to allow iOS and Android users to search, select, and share music in status updates in a future update.”

This functionality will be available across both major mobile operating systems, ensuring widespread accessibility for WhatsApp’s diverse user base.

The introduction of this feature stems from a strategic partnership between Meta and Universal Music Group (UMG). This collaboration extends beyond WhatsApp to encompass other Meta-owned platforms, creating a comprehensive music integration ecosystem across Meta’s social media landscape.

The agreement with UMG serves multiple purposes:

  1. It enables users to incorporate artists’ music into their content legally
  2. It addresses critical issues surrounding artist compensation
  3. It provides a framework for copyright protection
  1. Open WhatsApp and navigate to the Status tab
  2. Tap the “New Status” button
  3. Select your visual content (photo or video)
  4. Look for the new music icon and tap it
  5. Browse through available songs
  6. Select a portion of the song to feature
  7. Adjust the timing and placement of the music
  8. Post your multimedia status update

While the music integration feature is still in development, WhatsApp has already begun rolling out another significant update – voice transcription capabilities for Android users.

This feature, introduced in July 2024, was initially made available through the Google Play Store for Beta users.

The voice transcription feature:

  • Is compatible with Android version 2.24.15.5
  • Supports multiple languages including:
  • English
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Russian
  • Hindi
  • Allows users to read voice messages instead of listening to them
  • Provides easy access to voice message content for future reference

As the rollout continues globally, WhatsApp is expected to add support for more languages, making the feature accessible to an even broader user base.
