The Kenya Forestry College offers diversified courses at certificate and diploma levels in its regular program and short-term courses for its staff.

The certificate course takes two years and starts every January. Trainees must have attained a minimum grade of D+ in their KCSE to qualify for the program, whose training fee is Kshs 150,000.

The course combines 40% theory and 60% practical learning.

The Diploma program runs for a year and starts every January after the annual KFS rangers recruitment.

For a Diploma, the entry requirements are a certificate score of credit and above in Forestry. Alternatively, a pass in Forestry certificate course with a minimum of three years of field experience in the relevant field.

A Certificate qualification in Agriculture, range or wildlife management, or a closely related field also meets the requirement to join the KFC diploma course.

Even with that educational background, the Kenya Forest Service recruitment qualification requires a trainee to undertake certificate courses in silviculture, forest management, and forest measurements to earn the diploma. The fee for the course is Kshs 100,000.

KFC offers short courses on demand or per schedule in its calendar for those already employed in Kenya forest service jobs.

KFC tutors offer some, while outsourced personnel from affiliated training institutions like universities and government organizations such as KEFRI offer others.

Other additional entry requirements for training for foresters include proven proficiency in computer applications, clearance from the DCI, and being a Kenyan citizen.

Furthermore, one should meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Kenyan constitution.

Training applicants should bring original copies of academic certificates, National Identification cards, and testimonials to the recruitment centres set up by the KFS.
