How Seasonal Work is Announced
Every year between January and March, the Italian government publishes a decree in its official gazette declaring how many seasonal visas are on offer. Most of these jobs are in sectors that are short on staff, primarily the agricultural sector and care work. Sometimes, there can be jobs from other sectors.
The decree is called the Decreto Flussi and it contains a list of available jobs. Once published, you can apply for jobs for that year’s quota until December 31st of the calendar year. If new openings come up later in the year, they are automatically added to this list.

Application Process for the Italy Seasonal Work Visa
Here are the steps to follow when applying for the Italy seasonal work visa.
- Get a Job Offer from an Italian Employer
Before applying for a visa and a work permit, you must have a valid job offer aligned within seasonal employment. You can find these offers on online job platforms like EURES, Indeed, Glassdoor, and so on. Most seasonal jobs are in the agriculture and tourism sectors, where you can find jobs like vineyard tending, fruit and vegetable picking, animal husbandry, and jobs in hotels and restaurants.
- Obtain a Work Permit
Your future employer must apply for a work permit on your behalf. This happens at the one-stop-shop for immigration in the prefecture where you will work.

- Apply for a Visa at the Embassy
Once you get a work permit, the Italian authorities will inform your local Italian embassy or consulate of the approval, allowing you to start the visa application process. In most countries, you can apply for an Italian visa through the VFS Global platform. Access the VFS website and select Italy. Ensure you check the requirements, fees, and processing time.

- Get a Residence Permit
After arriving in Italy, you must apply for a residence permit in the one-stop-shop immigration office.
Application Dates for Italy Seasonal Work Visa
Italian employers can apply for the Italian seasonal visa from January 1st to March 31st. Applications for non-EU citizens will start on April 1st and end on May 31st.
Duration of the Work Permit
Your work permit will be valid from 20 days up to nine months, depending on the length of your employment contract. Residence permits are issued for the purpose and duration described on the visa.
The government may renew the seasonal worker residence permit if you get new opportunities for seasonal work.

Italian Work Visa Fees
All non-EU citizens must pay EUR 116 visa fees to enter Italian territory. Regarding residence permits, they cost EUR 40 for stays between three and 12 months, EUR 50 for 12 to 24 months, and EUR for periods longer than 24 months. Additionally, you pay administrative costs like EUR 30 for the sending of the postal kit, EUR 30.46 for issuance costs, and EUR 16 for the tax stamp.
