Seasonal work in Slovakia is any job that doesn’t exceed 180 days over a 12-month period. Most seasonal jobs are in the accommodation, agriculture, catering, construction, fishing, and forestry sectors.

Types of Slovakia Work Visa
Here are the types of Slovakian work visas you can apply for, depending on the type of job you intend to do.
- Single Permit: this is the most common visa issued to foreign nationals working in Slovakia. You don’t need a work permit with this visa type.
- Work Permit: this is given if you have a job offer valid for at least 12 months.
- Seasonal Employment: this applies to jobs that don’t exceed 180 days in a year.
- EU Blue Card: this is reserved for highly skilled individuals seeking employment in Slovakia.

Requirements for Slovakia Seasonal Work Visa
There are two types of seasonal work visas in Slovakia – short-term, which last for up to 90 days, and long-term, which last for up to 180 days.
Short-term Seasonal Work Visa
If your job contract doesn’t exceed 90 days, you will need a short-term visa. To obtain this, you need a work permit and a Schengen visa for seasonal employment.
Before applying for a work permit, your future employer must inform the Slovakia Labour Office. This must be done 10 days before your application. After this, your employer will issue a job contract and wait for 20 days for the processing of the permit. This permit is free of charge. After getting the permit, you can apply for the Schengen Visa.

Long-term Seasonal Work Visa
If your seasonal employment lasts for up to six months, you will need a long-term seasonal work visa. To obtain this, you need a temporary residence permit and a Slovakia long-term D visa.
You have two options when applying for the temporary residence permit.
- Option 1: you can apply for temporary residence for seasonal employment and start working only after getting the residence.
- Option 2: you can apply for short-term seasonal work and obtain a Schengen visa and work permit. The additional 90 days will be based on temporary residence for seasonal employment.

Application Process for Slovakian Temporary Work Visa
Here are the steps to follow when applying for a Slovakian seasonal work visa.
- Select the correct visa type: ensure you choose the correct visa type during your application. In this case, select a seasonal work visa and remember to choose the correct subtype.
- Prepare your documents: gather the required documents for your application. These include visa application forms, job contracts, work permits, proof of accommodation, health insurance, criminal records, etc.
- Pay the application fees: the government charges EUR 35 to apply for a Slovakia seasonal work visa.
- Submit your application.
Duration of a Slovakia Temporary Work Visa
Your seasonal work visa is valid through the duration of your seasonal employment. You can extend the visa for up to two years on condition you work for the same employer and in the same position.
